State Chief Information Officer and Washington Technology Services (WaTech) Director Jim Weaver has named Vinod Brahmapuram as the state Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). He will start October 21.

Vinod will assume the state CISO role vacated by Ron Buchanan on September 6 and will oversee the state Office of CyberSecurity.

He is currently the Deputy Chief Information Security Officer for the state of South Carolina. Vinod brings more than 20 years of information technology experience to WaTech with deep expertise in managing cybersecurity, developing and leading high-performing teams, and managing risk and compliance in heavily regulated environments. 

Before his work in South Carolina, Vinod held several security roles for the state of New Hampshire Health and Human Services, including serving as the agency’s CISO from 2015-2016.

He holds a master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of South Carolina and a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Acharya Nagarjuna University in India. In addition to his degrees, he is a Certified Information Security Manager, Certified Information System Security Professional and a Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer.

“Vinod is an experienced information security professional who has the expertise and leadership skills needed to lead the Office of Cybersecurity and safeguard the personal information of Washington state residents,” Weaver said.
