WaTech Director James Weaver has appointed two technology veterans to the agency’s management team.
Sue Langen is the new deputy director for the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and Scott Barringer is the assistant director for the Computing Services Division (CSD). Their appointments solidify the management team under Weaver, who began as WaTech’s director on Dec. 10.
Langen had been serving as acting deputy director for the OCIO since November in 2017. Barringer has been serving in the acting capacity of CSD since Nov. 1, 2018.
Barringer joined WaTech in December 2016 as manager of the Secure Access Washington group, one of the agency’s most visible services due to its base of more than 5 million users. He has a 20-year background in technology with medium to large-size for-profit and non-profit organizations in the Puget Sound region.
As head of CSD, Barringer leads teams that manage server and storage, systems applications, messaging and mainframe, and identity and access management. Overall there are about 65 employees in CSD.
“I’m looking forward to the new challenges the position brings,” Barringer said. “I have been working with this team for several months as interim assistant director and have a good feel for what can be accomplished both in the short- and long-term. My goal is to remove barriers to getting the right things done, and provide the support and motivation needed for these teams to be successful.”
As the deputy director for the OCIO, Langen oversees the agency’s Privacy/Open Data, Portfolio and Policy and Office of Cybersecurity teams totaling about 34 employees. The Seattle native is a veteran of more than 40 years of state service, the majority in technology positions.
Recent additions to the WaTech leadership team also include the appointment of Adam Eitmann as legislative affairs director, Vickie Sheehan as communications director, Wendi Gunther as chief of Administrative Services and Scott West as deputy director for the Infrastructure and Applications Division. Additionally, Ronald Buchanan began as chief information security officer for the Office of Cyber Security on Jan. 22.
