Webinar on state’s data breach notification law

State Chief Privacy Office Katy Ruckle recently gave a presentation about changes to the state's data breach notification law that have expanded the definition of personal information, reduced the time organizations have to notify individuals of a breach and reduced the time to notify the state attorney general's office.

The webinar aims to help government agencies become more aware of the changes. Updates to RCW 42.56.590 took effect March 1, 2020. More updates to the law will also go into effect June 11, 2020. In the presentation, Katy explains:

  • The expanded definition of personal information.
  • How to identify a breach and notification requirements.
  • Potential issues with implementation.
