Web Accessibility
Web Accessibility is the design and development of websites, web applications, digital documents and hypermedia for people who experience disabilities. The concept of accessible design and development ensures both direct and equal access that is compatible with a person's assistive technology including screen readers, alternative input devices or screen magnification.
Census data shows that between 12% and 20% of the U.S. population experience a disability that impacts their use of computers. Building accessible websites, web applications and software expands the demographic range of site users and has been shown to improve overall usability.
Features & Benefits
WaTech offers a host of solutions intended to help state government agencies meet and exceed the new Web Accessibility Policy set forth by the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). These standards are consistent with the digital access sections of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 and Section 508.
- Code review
Coding standards are reviewed using web accessibility testing tools and a detailed code compliance report is provided. - Professional accessibility assessment
Conducted by WaTech's accessibility subject matter experts, the website or application professional assessment is based on preset criteria that meet WCAG 2.0 AA standards and the Department of Homeland Security's Baseline Tests for Software and Web Accessibility. The information gathered is used to create a detailed report identifying any accessibility issues and recommendations for resolving them. - Coordinated user testing
WaTech offers a full-service user testing experience. The User Experience (UX) team coordinates and organizes testing with users of assistive technologies. These usability sessions are recorded and data is collected around usability issues. WaTech analyzes data collected and provides a full report including findings and recommendations. - Site and application work (when applicable)
