Inslee names Mark Quimby acting director of WaTech

Gov. Jay Inslee has named Mark Quimby acting director of WaTech, effective March 11. Mark takes over from James Weaver who served as director since 2018. Jim left WaTech to lead North Carolina's Department of Information Technology.

Mark previously served as deputy director for technology and operations at WaTech and has been with the agency since 2014. As deputy, he helped lead the agency, developing technology solutions and services for state agencies and local governments. Before he was deputy director, he served as assistant director for network services, enterprise data network manager and disaster recovery architect for the agency.

Prior to his work at WaTech, Mark worked at Washington State Department of Corrections for 15 years, where he managed the agency's technology and infrastructure.

"Mark has dedicated over 20 years of his career to serving the people of Washington state and I know he will utilize his experience to continue developing the level of service WaTech brings to state government," Inslee said. "I look forward to collaborating with Mark, and I thank Jim for his service the past two years through some of our state's most challenging and complex times."

Mark earned his bachelor's degree in computer science and business management from The Evergreen State College.

The appointment is effective March 11. A search for a permanent director is underway.
