September 2022 Privacy Points

As promised, the Privacy Basics for Washington State Employees training course is now available to anyone who wants to watch the online course on the Office of Privacy and Data Protection website.

The training is intended to be a privacy primer to understand what privacy is, why it's important and how it is distinct from cybersecurity.

The course is 33-minutes and has three parts:

  • Intro to Privacy: An overview on personal Information, data categorization, and privacy harms and violations.
  • Privacy in the State of Washington: This covers privacy laws and policies, and state agency Privacy Principles.
  • Privacy in Practice: A deeper dive into agency and employee responsibilities, and privacy best practices.

Privacy Assessment Survey - September 30th DEADLINE reminder!

The Privacy Assessment Survey link is posted along with the Survey Guidance Document and recorded walkthrough of this year's survey. The survey is largely the same as last year's with some differences that are highlighted in the guidance document. The deadline for completing the survey is Sept. 30, 2022.

October Webinar - Privacy Frameworks

Privacy frameworks are the basic structure used to support privacy program management. Using a Privacy Framework to Build and Manage your Privacy Program can help agencies consistently build, maintain and improve their programs. Please join the Office of Privacy and Data Protection in this webinar to discuss:

  • The background of privacy frameworks and maturity models.
  • An introduction to a new OPDP Privacy Framework available for state agencies.
  • Using privacy frameworks to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Considerations when launching a new privacy program.
