Washington is gearing up for Cybersecurity Awareness Month with a packed schedule of events built around the theme “Smarter, Safer, Stronger.” Led by WaTech’s Office of Cybersecurity, this year’s program highlights hands-on learning and practical tools to keep state systems and data safe.
The campaign starts Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, from noon to 1 p.m. when State Chief Information Security Officer Ralph Johnson and State Chief Information Officer Bill Kehoe lead the opening session.
“Our strongest defense is an informed workforce,” said Ralph Johnson, Washington state’s Chief Information Security Officer. “This month gives us a chance to improve our security by equipping staff with the knowledge and skills to protect the data we are entrusted with. When staff recognize threats and respond quickly, we reduce risks and strengthen state services.”
Cybersecurity and privacy experts will deliver presentations each week in October. Participants will be automatically entered into drawings for gift cards.
Returning favorites headline this year’s lineup:
- Kahoot! quizes: Wednesdays, Oct. 8, 15, 22, and 29, from noon to 1 p.m. on Microsoft Teams. A link will be available for those unable to join live.
- Cybersecurity Escape Room 2.0: Hosted at the 1500 Jefferson Building. Teams of two to six can register. Space is limited and prizes await top performers.
- Short “Cyberbytes” videos will be posted weekly to reinforce good habits at work and at home.
