OLYMPIA, WA - Washington Technology Solutions (WaTech) will host the 3rd Annual Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) Olympia. The event is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. on May 19, 2016 at WaTech Headquarters in Olympia.
GAAD is in its 5th year as a worldwide event, having gone from a simple blog post and grown into several hundred meetings around the world. It was launched to get people talking and learning about digital accessibility and users with different disabilities. "For some people, an accessible internet literally makes a world of difference," said GAAD founder and blogger Joe Devon.
WaTech agency partners, and community members who build, shape, fund and influence technology are encouraged to attend the event to learn more about making technology accessible and usable for the disabled. Attendees will learn about upcoming changes to state policy surrounding accessibility and the services that will be available to help improve usability.
Gov. Jay Inslee will help kick off the event with a special video message to attendees on the importance of digital inclusion and accessibility.
Instructional Director Sundae Delgado from the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services (DES) will be a guest speaker. Delgado has been recognized for her work providing digital accessibility for the state's eLearning program.
