January 2025 Update

The Technology Services Board (TSB) has approved funding for seven innovative projects across six agencies including:

  1. Improving safety of unreinforced masonry structures: The Department of Archaeology & Historic Preservation will create an interactive web portal to identify and prioritize 100% of the structures for retrofit, enhancing public safety statewide.
  2. Modernizing purchase card reconciliation: The Department of Fish and Wildlife will leverage WaTech’s Automation Services to streamline this process, significantly reducing staff time and enabling a focus on other essential business needs.
  3. Enhancing the veteran support: The Washington State Department of Veteran’s Affairs will improve its website and data synchronization with the Federal VA, ensuring accessibility compliance, better navigation, and faster, more accurate service delivery to veterans and their families.

Other projects include digitally preserving deteriorating historic images, modernizing emergency network infrastructure for Airlift Northwest, and streamlining public records requests at the Liquor and Cannabis Board. For more information on these projects, visit our website.

About

In 2023 the state Legislature created an Innovation and Modernization Fund (IMF) at WaTech that allows state agencies to address emergent legacy-systems issues or adopt innovative technology to meet a critical business need.

The 2023-25 biennial budget appropriated $3 million for the IMF, of which $1.5 million was available for fiscal year 2024. Within the first five months of availability of funding for this program, WaTech received 34 proposals totaling $6.6 million in requests. Twelve requests were approved and all funds for FY24 have been awarded.

The IM Program provides administrative review of agency proposals, establishes criteria and evaluates proposals, collaborates with state agencies to develop proposals for funds access, and provides project oversight of TSB-approved projects.
