Media Sanitization and Disposal Standard

Purpose

The 2017 version of OCIO 141.10 provides more details on media disposal when compared to media sanitization. This update includes media sanitization requirements from NIST SP 800-88r1 - Guidelines for Media Sanitization. This standard ensures that, when no longer required, that media is securely and safely sanitized using formal, documented procedures consistent with the categorization of data stored on that media. This ensures the confidentiality of sensitive and/or personal data stored on state-owned media.
