Last Privacy Points of 2021! Another year in the books and we have accomplished a lot by way of improving privacy practices and awareness in the state despite not being able to come together in person. Our team is encouraged by the steps state agencies are taking to ensure they are appropriately protecting personal information. The Office of Privacy and Data Protection (OPDP) is committed to collaborating with agencies and cultivating further growth next year.
To that end we have released and published several reports, guidance and presentations over the past month to wrap up the year:
- Report Highlights - A two-page summary of the Privacy and Cybersecurity Best Practices key findings and recommendations.
- Privacy and Cybersecurity Best Practices Report - Full report from the collaboration of the Office of Cybersecurity, Office of Privacy and Data Protection, and the Attorney General's Office.
- Data Sharing Agreement Implementation Guide - Guidance intended to help agencies successfully implement appropriate data sharing agreements (DSAs) to protect confidential information.
- Automated Decision-Making Systems Workgroup Report - Report requested by the legislature due to the nature of automated decision systems and the increasing adoption of emerging technology in government.
Presentations
- Webinar: How State Governments Can Address the Growing Demand for Digital Privacy, Dec 9, 2021. This month I was invited to be a panel member for the Center for Digital Government. The panel covered digital privacy and how it affects governments across the U.S. We discussed the difference between data privacy and digital privacy, best practices state governments are using to address privacy, and recent and upcoming legislation.
- NASCIO Podcast - A Growing Focus on Privacy. Dec. 15, 2021. I was also invited to participate in a National Association of Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) podcast on privacy in Washington. - Webinar: Privacy and Data Sharing Agreement Best Practices. Dec. 16, 2021. Privacy and Data Protection Manager Matt King gave a comprehensive presentation focusing on privacy and data sharing agreement best practices and recommendations from the report on cybersecurity, privacy and data sharing.
