The Policy and External Affairs program builds relationships with key stakeholders, including the Governor's office, legislators, legislative staff, and local and state agencies, to advocate for WaTech’s interests.
Before and after legislative sessions, we may join or lead workgroups focused on specific issues or help drive statewide efforts on important policy matters. We make sure WaTech’s policy priorities are represented both within the agency and the broader IT community.
We’re also responsible for developing any potential legislation WaTech might propose. This is done in line with the Director and Governor's goals and involves collaboration within the agency and with our partners. We work closely with the Governor's policy team on any executive-requested legislation that could affect WaTech or the IT community.
During the legislative session, we ensure WaTech's proposed legislation is communicated to lawmakers and moves through the process. We engage with stakeholders early and regularly. In addition to managing WaTech's legislative efforts, we track, analyze, and provide updates on other bills that could impact WaTech or the IT sector.
Our office also handles high-profile projects that may involve the Governor, Congress, elected officials, agency leaders, or the public.
