Enterprise Backup
Enterprise Backup provides a comprehensive system for backing up and restoring almost any server over the State Government Network (SGN). Enterprise Backup can backup and restore physical and virtual servers, file shares, and applications such as SQL, SharePoint, and Active Directory.
A variety of technologies used to provide backup and restore services, archival and retrieval, storage management and disaster recovery. We can support both physical and virtual servers, running Windows or Linux/Unix variants. We can support servers within the Data Center or accessible via the SGN.
Enterprise Backup provides agencies with access to the WaTech Enterprise Backup infrastructure without having to purchase and maintain their own backup systems or environments. The service includes client software and (local and cloud) storage necessary to backup file shares, databases, applications, virtual environments, and physical systems. The data is encrypted and stored in two geographically dispersed locations:
- Washington State Data Center (SDC) hosted restore points are kept for the first 7 days of retention period for fast restores.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosted restore points are kept for the Agency’s full retention period.
- All restore points are stored on immutable storage which prevents data from accidental or intentional deletion.
The service is a multi-tenant solution with the ability to securely delegate the backup and recovery responsibilities throughout the agency using role-based access.
Features & Benefits
- Backup your files, individual disks, servers, and applications automatically.
- Onsite and Cloud object storage allow for the 3-2-1 backup strategy (3 copies, 2 media types and 1 copy offsite).
- Data is available during disaster recovery situations.
- More time for agency system administrators to do other work.
- Email notifications are available to alert for backup success and issues.
Pricing
$0.25 per gigabyte, per month
Pre-Service Requirements
Backup source must be on the State Government Network.
Managed Server Support
For customers with virtual servers in the Washington State Community Cloud, WaTech can provide flexible and professional support for your virtual servers. We currently provide technical support for Windows and Linux based operating systems. With Managed Server Support, we maintain your virtual servers operating systems, which are hosted in our virtual infrastructure and on the SSV domain.
Features and Benefits
- Server Administration – Setup and maintain computer virtual server operating system, server updates and patching via Microsoft WSUS, server monitoring via vRealize Operations Manager and Orion monitoring, works with NSX administrators to provide micro-segmentation, and troubleshooting OS-related issues.
- Network Connectivity Support – maintain virtual network configurations; troubleshoot network issues and works with WaTech teams to resolve connectivity issues.
- Network Tuning – Slow network access, file sharing problem, internet speed issues, random network outages, peer-to-peer access error or problem.
- Minimal basic windows server-based application support examples are (basic IIS, Task Scheduler, File server services).
- Make recommendations on optimizing server performance and resource utilization.
- Network management assistance (i.e. nslookup requests, IP configuration (gateway, subnet mask, etc.).
- Provisioning and configuration of virtual servers.
- Operating system installation, updates, automated patching, and fixes.
- Orion Monitoring with 24/7 support servers identified as mission critical to the business.
- Vendor coordination for hardware and OS problems.
- Troubleshooting existing server-based relationships (i.e. app to SQL or app to Mainframe).
- Failover redundancy with other WaTech services.
- Assist customers with firewall changes for supported servers.

Network Attached Storage
WaTech offers storage services for any agency on the State Government Network. We can host file shares for your unstructured data on our industry-standard NetApp located in the State Datacenter. Storage protocols CIFS/SMB, NFS, and Object Storage are available.
Features & Benefits
- NetApp deduplication and compression reduce the amount of storage needed for CIFS shares, optimizing space and lowering costs.
- Data is protected by NetApp’s Automated Ransomware Protection (ARP) services. ARP delivers real-time, multi-faceted defense for your critical data. Advanced AI-powered detection algorithms continuously monitor data patterns, swiftly identifying potential ransomware threats with 99% accuracy. Reacting quickly to attacks allows ARP to quickly snapshot data and secure the copies ensuring rapid recovery.
- All data encryption is FIPS 140-2 compliant and enabled by default. External key management servers are also supported.
- Disaster Recovery replication is available on our DR site hosted in Quincy, WA. Data can be protected easily with Recovery Point Objectives of less than 5 minutes.

Zerto Disaster Recovery
Disaster recovery and migrations to and from the Washington State Community Cloud in western Washington (primary) data center and in eastern Washington (secondary) data center. WaTech is developing a feature to allow for recoveries and migrations from on premise to customer instances within Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services or from public cloud to public cloud.
Features & Benefits
- Replicate servers efficiently to target locations.
- Simplified disaster recovery process.
- Recover VM from checkpoints that are created every few seconds over the preceding two days.
- Supports extremely short recovery point and recovery time objectives.
- Uses VXLAN features on the network to preserve IP addresses and minimize configuration changes during disaster recoveries to the QDC.
- Recovery infrastructure resources available always.
- Test on customer's own schedule.
- Redundant 20Gb connectivity between SDC and QDC.
- Networking included - no data ingress or egress fees between SDC and QDC.
Pricing
Current Washington State Community Cloud customers pay 100% of the cost of the production VM for replication to the QDC. This means that if the production VM costs $100.00, the additional charge for replication would be $100.00.
