State CIO Bill Kehoe applauds new program to train IT workers

Washington State Chief Information Officer Bill Kehoe said he strongly supports a new collaboration between the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to train and certify 2,500 K-12 students in cloud computing skills within the next three years.

Along with support from the Washington Training and Education Coordinating Board, the statewide initiative will provide high school students with technical training and education mapped to in-demand skills, paving the way for careers in tech.

"This is very exciting. I'm very supportive of this program," Bill said at a recent announcement in Seattle. "We are a cloud first state ... and we are transforming a lot of our services that were built decades ago to the cloud. And we need people to do that."
