The Policy and Government Affairs program establishes relationships with the authorizing environment, including the Governor's policy and budget staff, constituents, legislators, legislative committee staff, and local/state government agencies, as part of the ongoing advocacy on behalf of WaTech.

Before and after session, we may convene or participate in workgroups related to specific issues areas or facilitate statewide efforts on key policy issues. We ensure these policy interests are represented at the WaTech agency level and across the broader IT community.

In addition, the office is responsible for developing any possible legislation that WaTech is considering requesting. Legislation is considered to further the Director and Governor's priorities. Legislation development is a collaborative process within the agency as well as with our agency partners. In addition, we work with the Governor's policy staff on executive request legislation that may impact the agency or the broader IT community.

During the legislative session, we work to ensure any WaTech request legislation is communicated to legislative stakeholders and progresses through the legislative process. We take a proactive approach to work with our stakeholders by engaging with them early and often. In addition to working on WaTech request legislation, the office tracks, conducts analysis and communicates on bills that may have an impact on WaTech or the broader IT community.

The office also works on special projects that are highly visible to our authorizing environment and the public. These projects may involve the Governor and his office, Congressional Delegation, separately elected officials, agency directors, or the public.

Voice your opinion on any bill by calling the Legislative Hotline at 1-800-562-6000. Watch or listen to hearings on TVW.
