S0: Feasibility Study

Notice: applying this to your agency.

The IT Project Resources are not meant to replace your agency’s internal project management practices or prescribe how you must operate. Instead, they offer concepts and tools that can strengthen delivery by providing a scalable framework for project level coordination. All project documentation should be maintained throughout each stage in alignment with agency policies and, where applicable, WaTech requirements and oversight expectations.

For Projects

Evaluate solution options to determine whether the proposed project approach is viable, achievable, and aligned with business and technical expectations. The feasibility study supports informed decision-making by analyzing alternative solutions, estimating costs and timelines, and identifying key risks and assumptions.

This document is essential for validating the project’s direction before committing significant resources and may be a required input for WaTech oversight intake.

Key Activities:

  • Conduct interviews with impacted groups to understand desired outcomes and success criteria
  • Identify and assess alternative solutions, including technical feasibility, cost, timeline, risks, and assumptions
  • Engage subject matter experts to validate findings and identify constraints
  • Recommend a preferred solution and justify the selection
  • Present the feasibility study for executive review and approval
  • Save the approved version in the project records and collaboration site
