Legislative session 2025
This year’s legislative session kicked off with a strong focus on AI in the new House Technology, Economic Development, & Veterans Committee (HTEDV). Nick Stowe and I had the opportunity to present WaTech’s leadership on the Interim Guidelines for Purposeful and Responsible Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Washington State Government and Governor Inslee’s Executive Order 24-01on AI. To watch the work session visit tvw.org. Two AI bills have already been heard in committee and are scheduled for executive action this week. (See HB 1168 and HB 1170).
Executive Order 24-01 deliverables posted
All of the deliverables WaTech completed over the past year under the AI Executive Order are posted on WaTech’s website. You can find them on our AI resources website at https://watech.wa.gov/artificial-intelligence-resources. Thank you to all of the state agencies and external partners who helped lay the groundwork for responsible AI adaptation in our state.
AI Task Force Inaugural Report
In case you missed it, the Washington state AI Task Force published its preliminary report. Representatives from the AI Task Force also presented to the HTEDV committee in the same work session that I presented in. You can find the report on the Office of the Attorney General’s website at: Inaugural Report of the Washington State AI Task Force.
Thanks and see you next month with more updates!
