WaTech provides oversight, consultation and project management support for statewide information technology projects. RCW 43.105.245 requires WaTech to establish a model process for agencies to develop and implement projects as well as provide oversight and gives WaTech broad authority on projects.
Our IT Project Oversight team partners with project leaders to keep work aligned with business priorities and focused on results. Oversight consultants advise project leadership, promote transparency, support responsible use of public funds and help projects stay on track for scope, schedule and budget. WaTech has the authority to terminate or suspend projects that consistently fail to meet minimum performance standards
Our Project Management Partners (PMPs) support agencies by providing practical resources, hands-on support and best practices that strengthen project delivery across state government.
WaTech is legislatively mandated to:
- Evaluation of agency information technology spending and budget requests (RCW 43.105.240 )
- Establish policies and procedures that govern the planning, implementation and evaluation of major IT projects (RCW 43.105.245.
- Review, provide recommendations and approve major technology project and service (RCW 43.105.255).
- Provide master‑level project management guidance to agency IT partners to strengthen delivery of complex initiatives (Section 156 of WA state enacted budget).
